How to Get Smooth Armpits for Summer?

We decided to dive deeply in the web to get you the best tips to get silky, smooth underarms this summer. So, stop thinking of different outfits to cover your underarms! We want you to feel comfortable wearing your favorite sleeveless dress and bikini.

We all love to pamper our skin, but sometimes we forget the little corners of our body where skin STILL exists. And after going through all the pain of waxing and shaving, the least we can do is to give them a proper skincare routine. We owe it to them! Here we give you solutions to the main skin concerns when it comes to underarms.

Problem #1: To shave or not to shave? I DON'T WANT INGROWN HAIRS.

Removing hair from the underarm area is the first step in creating smooth armpits (but NOT required). You can shave or wax, but the method you choose will depend on how your skin reacts. So if you choose to shave, we recommend adding an extra step in your routine: exfoliating. If you are shaving often, then we recommend using a gentle scrub – with no harsh chemicals or alcohol - or an exfoliating mitt, or loofah. These will help dislodge hairs trapped beneath the skin’s surface to prevent them from becoming ingrown.

Whatever you use, remember to be gentle—no aggressive scrubbing! Performing this ritual at least once a week helps to limit breakouts and the occurrence of ingrown hairs which results in smooth and silky underarms!

Additionally, we recommend shaving at night to ensure your skin has time to recover and rejuvenate. At night, your arms stay relatively still, which will help prevent irritation from friction. We are more active during the day, and the armpit is exposed to sweat which leaves the pores vulnerable to bacteria.

And don't forget DO NOT use plain soap to shave. Try a formula designed for shaving. For example, our VIBLOK Shaving Foam helps create a good buffer between your skin and the blade. Make sure you shave with light strokes while using your razor on the skin instead of going harshly.

Shaving is #1 cause of irritation because it's actually a form of exfoliation. You are removing the top layer of dead skin cells every time you run a blade. Thus, if you follow these steps your will prevent skin irritation. Having said this, we do not recommend shaving every day as this can worsen your irritation.

Problem #2: My skin is dry and irritated

If you followed the first steps, then the solution is simple: keep the area moisturized to help decrease the scaliness of the skin and keep it from drying out. Moisturized skin is healthy skin, and you should moisturize your underarms everyday even if you don't shave. Try using a formula designed for sensitive areas such as, our Skin Defense Lotion. Moisturizing reduces friction between your skin and clothes and makes the skin smoother. But keep an eye on what you wear. Also, you can finish off the routine with a moisturizing deodorant. Deodorant will provide your armpits with added protection to combat the sweat and bacteria that has the potential to undermine the hard work done to make the skin soft and smooth. If the irritation or dryness persists or worsens, consult with a doctor, there exists medicinal creams and treatments that will help you fight this.

Problem #3: My underarms look dark 🥲

Discoloration of skin pigment or the accumulation of dead cells can cause dark underarms. The most common causes are shaving and ongoing irritation. But in some cases, it can be a chemical reaction or allergy to some products such as, deodorant. Specially if they include alcohol, fragrance, and dyes in their formula. This may stimulate melanin production in some people so it’s important to identify any cosmetics that are causing rashness or discomfort in the area which triggers hyperpigmentation.

Keep in mind you may not be able to get rid of 100% of the hyperpigmentation in this area, and that’s okay, it’s natural to have a bit of a darker skin in your underarms.

One good tip we have for extra care is masking. It brings many benefits as it can help you to detox your underarms and act as a natural deodorant. Some masks can help to lighten up the area, prevent the accumulation of bacteria, and control sweat – making your skin feel fresh and soft - ready for summer!

So, stop overlooking this important part of your body and start taking care of it!
