Dry Brushing 101 + Shaving

Dry Brushing 101 + Shaving

You’ve probably already heard about this technique before since it’s been around for centuries… but did you know it is the perfect step to include before shaving?

Let’s go back to the basics!

What is dry brushing?

Dry brushing is the process of gently massaging your body with a stiff-bristled brush in circular and upward motions.

How and when is it done?

When dry brushing it is important to make sure your body is completely dry, hence the name! Apply slightly firm pressure and start at your ankle, moving the brush in long circular motions in the direction of your heart. The best time to do it is right before showering, so we recommend you add this to your pre-shower routine! To see results, try dry brushing 1 to 2 times a week, but if your skin is very sensitive do it twice a month.

What are the benefits?

- Exfoliates the skin (the MOST important one)
- Brighter and glowing skin
- Boosts circulation
- Aids with lymphatic drainage

Why should you do it before shaving?

It is recommended to exfoliate your skin before ANY hair removal process. It removes dirt and dead skin cells that can clog your hair follicles and trap your hair under the skin (ingrown hairs). Exfoliating ensures the hair follicle are in the best condition for hair removal because it lifts the hairs, allowing you to have a painless shave. Exfoliating before shaving also allows for normal hair growth post-shave.

Aftercare

Never forget to apply a moisturizer as the last step. Although dry brushing isn’t too harsh on your skin, it will still leave your skin sensitive and even more sensitive after you shave. Seal your skin with the right after-shave lotion, Viblok® Skin Defense Lotion. This product will soothe your skin and add extra care to prevent ingrown hairs and irritation.
