Keeping Your Lady Parts Healthy: The Do’s and Don’ts

Our precious lady parts are capable of some pretty amazing things, so long as they are taken care of like the delicate flowers they are. More often than not we put our vaginas in harm’s way without even knowing, and this is simply not acceptable- so it’s time to get informed. If you want to make sure you’re showing your flower the love it deserves, follow this list of Do’s and Don’ts.

DO: Check the ingredients in everything that comes into contact with your vulva.

There are many things we place on, in, or near our genitals that can contain harmful chemicals that can throw off your pH balance or worse, cause an infection. The most common things we must keep an eye out for are lubricants, sex toys, and freshening wipes/ soaps.

When you are choosing the wipes, soaps, shaving creams, lubricants, and that get to be graced with your vagina’s presence, be sure to avoid the following in each:

  • Parabens
  • Glycerin
  • most alcohols
  • scents
  • flavors
  • non-natural oils
  • dyes

Luckily, our VIBLOK intimate wipes are free from any of the harmful chemicals above, so you can keep your flower fresh while simultaneously keeping it healthy.

When it comes to sex toys, try to ensure that they’re made from one of the following materials, and always clean them after use!

  •  Wood
  • ABS (plastic)
  • silicone
  • stainless steel
  • glass
  • ceramic
  • stone

DON’T: Get with the Douche.

We aren’t talking about the guy who told you whatever he could to get you in bed then went ghost, (however you should definitely avoid him too!)

We’re talking about the act of douching. You may feel like that douching session is good for you because of the instant reward it may give you of a fresh feeling, but just like those days after you had great sex with a douche when he hasn’t called back- you’ll be left feeling crappy, with an unbalanced (emotionally unstable) pH vagina.

Metaphors aside, douching can cause serious issues with your pH balance. As we mentioned before, our vaginas are amazing little parts that manage to remain balanced naturally, and even if you experience a bit of discharge- it is often a sign of your precious flower doing the cleaning for you.

DO: Let your natural roots grow out every now & then.

We can only hope that by now, you learned better than the ever-too common stigma that hairy vaginas aren’t clean. More often than not, it’s quite the opposite. Letting your vagina hair grow out can save you from serious infections, and as long as it makes you feel happy and comfortable, the right partner will appreciate you making the choice to embrace it for your health.

DON’T: Forget to water your flower after removing it’s protecting components.

To put simply, If you’re going to remove the hair that protects your vaginal area, make sure your moisturize immediately after. Using products like our VIBLOK lotion to moisturize those sensitive areas after hair removal helps you to restore the protective barrier you may have lost when you removed the hair.

DO: Practice safe sex.

When we say safe sex, we aren’t just talking about wearing a condom (although you absolutely always should) and one that is free of potentially harmful ingredients like spermicides. In addition to wearing a condom, you must be mindful about your actions during sex.

If you happen to be a fan of anal intercourse, make sure it only happens after the fact of vaginal intercourse, (even if he just tries to act like it “slipped in”) because we’ve all been there before. By avoiding this anal to vaginal transition, you may also avoid some serious infections that can arise from it. Last but not least, pee before and after, because no one likes having to chug cranberry juice after you end up with a UTI.

DON’T: Forget to give your flower some air.

Infections can easily arise when we wear clothing that’s too tight, with materials that don’t give your vagina the air it needs. Try to switch back to granny panties (or at least cotton material) every now and then, and make sure you’re frequently changing your linens out. You may feel tempted to go have a bite to eat or a glass of wine after that strenuous hot yoga session, but avoid doing this until you’ve showered or at least changed. Infections can arise very easily from staying in your post workout and/ or swimming gear!

DO: Treat your flower.

No matter what kind of flower you have, your flower is golden, and out of this world! Remember to treat it that way, and protect it like the precious specimen it is. Remember how sacred your flower is, and that access to it should be limited to only those that deserve it. Last but not least, take that flower on a VIBLOK shopping spree, because no one cares more about your flower’s health than we do!
