How to Prep Your Skin for the Holidays

How to Prep Your Skin for the Holidays

With all the grocery shopping and present wrapping, prepping your skin ahead of the holiday season is probably the last thing on your mind. However, it can be one of the greatest gifts you give yourself this December.

Prepping your skin for a big event doesn't need to be hard or stressful, you just need a few skincare essentials to get rid of those pimples and dryness. Because nothing ruins a glam makeup look more than dry, patchy, or rough-textured skin. First, let’s start explaining how to prep your skin for the holidays (the right way!).

Wellness check

Beauty comes from the inside out. If you’ve skipped your workout sessions, then there’s no better time to start a lifestyle change — start eating healthy, work out, control the booze, sleep better—and establish a good skin care regimen.

Exfoliation

Dry skin can lead to the dull, lackluster complexion. One of the best ways to achieve merry and bright skin is through exfoliation two to three times a week. But stay away from scrubs that can easily irritate already dry skin.

Hydrate your body — inside and out

Even if you’re drinking more hot teas, it’s essential to stay hydrated. Start by increasing your water intake, especially if you’re drinking more booze. And lower down the temperature of your shower, hot water can strip skin of natural moisturizers that can dry skin and increase irritation. Finally, apply a deep moisturizing lotion all over your body, shea butter is our favorite. This is anessential step to prep your skin for a big event.

Removing unwanted hairs

If you want smooth skin, sometimes the best way to achieve it is to remove the unwanted thick hairs of your body. And a great duo is our VIBLOK® Shaving Foam + VIBLOK® Skin Defense Lotion. These two will hydrate and soften your skin, eliminate irritation and razor bumps, and fight off ingrown hairs.

Now let’s move on to our face…

Brighten brown spots

After all the summer sunny days, we might still have remaining sunspots in our cheeks. We recommend a vitamin C serum on bare skin in the a.m. and retinol on a freshly washed face in the p.m. before your moisturizer. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, meaning it can shield the skin cells from free radicals caused by pollution and UV exposure. And don’t forget to keep applying SPF every 4 hours.

Add an AHA into your skincare routine

If your skin is looking a little dull these days you can solve that by adding an AHA-formulated cleanser, toner, or serum into your daily skincare regimen. These AHA ingredients dissolve dead skin cells from the surface of your skin to clear pores, prevent breakouts, reveal a brighter complexion and smoother texture.

Treat puffy eyes

With these days where we drink more and sleep less, taking care of the skin around our eyes should be a priority. Start applying (if you aren’t already) a hydrating, anti-inflammatory eye cream.

Quick tip: For extra de-puffing, keep your eye serum in your skin care fridge and apply the serum with a cold roller or gua sha.

Put on a face mask

A few hours before the big event treat your skin with a hydrating, brightening face mask. It's a quick way to inject your skin with nutrients to boost hydration and achieve a glowing skin. Our personal favorites are hyaluronic acid and rose water face masks. But for added boost, apply a gentle green clay mask the morning of your event.

Boost hydration

Invest in a quality face and body moisturizer to ensure your skin can look and feel its best. Look for products formulated with high-performing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Moisturize twice a day, in the a.m. and before going to sleep. And if you can squeeze a glass just before bed that’d be great. Additionally, during the day you can carry a facial mist to maintain your skin’s healthy glow.

And voilà… you are ready to slay your night! ✨ Don’t forget to take lots of pictures to capture these moments forever.
